So, you've been using Oracle and want to export your data out to a spreadsheet... easy huh? Just click File - Export and a window pops up and closes straight away! What the...!!!
This took me ages to work out, so hopefully it'll save you some time.
First, add the site to your Trusted Sites List - if you trust it with your finances, you should be happy to do this :)
Then click on Custom Level and set
Downloads > Automatic Prompting for file downloads to Enable
Downloads > File downloads to Enable
A quick restart of IE, and you should be able to File > Export from Oracle with ease.
You may also want to associate TSV files Excel, just right click it and select Open, Select a program from a list of installed programs and choose Excel

Sometimes installing the Oracle Jinitiator just doesn't go through properly. I recently had the experience of trying to install it several times, and it crashing out right at the end.
Assuming that it had probably done all the good bits earlier in the install, I ignored the error and fired up the URL, and up popped the Oracle window!
However, at the bottom of the windows were yellow warning bars, and I could not cut and paste into it.
After hunting around on the internet for a while, I worked out that it was something to do with the identitydb.obj file, so rather than get deep down into the hows and whys, I just copied the file from a working machine over onto the new PC and after a quick restart of IE, everything was fine once more!
You can fine the file in c:\program files\oracle\identitydb.obj

I recently had an issue with a new Exchange 2007 server which could send emails to other Exchange 2003 users, and outgoing Internet emails, but when the Internet user replied, they got the following error message:

After much hunting around I found that this was because the default recieve connectoron "mailserver" hadn't been configured to accept unauthenticated connections (like SMTP from outside the organisation). Running the following command fixed it immediately, and no, it doesn't mean your system can be used to relay.
I have owned a Popcorn Hour media streamer for a couple of years now, and been very impressed with it's support for pretty much any video file I throw at it.
I recently upgraded my NAS from a DroboShare to a Windows 7 Professional PC with the drobo attached directly.
Everything wa going swimmingly, but for some reason the PCH kept losing connection to the SMB share on the Win 7 machine. It kept giving me a "No content found" message whne connecting to the share.
When I browse to the share, I can see the server but the PCH reports that there are no shares on the PC. Other Windows clients have no problem accessing the shares.
If I rebooted the Popcorn Hour I got an "out of memory" error when accessing the server!
After much reading around, I started to despair.. turning off Homegroup didn't work, neither did wuninstalling Windows Live Login Assistant.
Eventually I spotted the following error in my event log:

Having to support people in remote sites has its difficulties, especially when you need to take them through complex procedures.
Often, viewing the Remote Desktop is the only way to get the job done. Traditionally, this has been very expensive for companies, who need to purchase a license for each potential user of Webex/GoToAssist or whatever application they want to use. If you have five peope in your Tech Support team you're looking at quite a bit of money.
Now, Microsoft have released a new free application that provides you that facility. In this article I will take you through how to use it.
Installing the Agent.
Both machines need to have the SharedView application installed, but only the initiator of the call needs to have a live.com account. If you are in a support organisation, you may want to set up a Windows Live ID with your business email address here. To install SharedView on your PC download the application here (3.2Mb).
Starting a session
The chances are that the other user doesn't have SharedView installed, but that's OK. Just fire
up SharedView and once you have logged in with your Live ID, and click on "Start a new session".
You can use the "Copy instrctions to the clipboard" or "Open a new e-mail message" buttons to send the other user the details, or tell them to go to https://joinsvw.sharedview.com/join.aspx and enter the Session Name and Password.
The click on Start to commence the session.
You will be prompted when the other user connects.
Sharing the screen
Each user can choose to share a running application, or the whole desktop. To do this, just click on the SharedView toolbar at the top of the screen and select what you would like to share.
You can then request control by clickiung on the "Request control" button. The end user will need to approve this before you will be able to make changes on their PC.
And that's it!
SharedView is simple, quick and comes from a trusted source.
I've been playing around recently witht he new Android phones, and have been generally very impressed with them. They still have a few rough edges though, and my HTC Magic has been exhibiting some strange behaviour...
The first thing I do on any new phone, is copy over my ringtone. Honestly, if it doesn't use that ringtone I'll tune it out and never answer it. So I copied over my MP3 file and set it up as the default ringtone.
Imagine my surprise when I called myself, and the phone vibrated, the screen flashed, but the ringtone didn't fire up for a good 10 seconds, then after another 5 seconds it went to voicemail.
Initially I thought this was the fault of the MP3 being too big and was taking up too much memory, so I chopped it down to 236kb, and tried it again... with the same results.
I then fired up a file manager on the Android phone and saw that all the built in ringtones were in OGG format.
On a hunch, I fired up Mediacoder and converted my MP3 to OGG Vorbis using the settings below:
Set the Encoder to Vorbis
Set the Container to OGG
Once I had generated the OGG file, I copied it onto m sdcard, and set it as the default ringtone, and now my phone flashes, vibrates and rings all at the same time :)

Windows 2008 Remote Desktop gateway is a great idea.
Instead of opening up multiple machines on your firewall to allow users to remote dektop in, RD gateway allows you to open up a single IP which then tunnels through to RDP servers inside of your network.
RDG uses a combnation of RDRAP and RDCAP to verify who is allowed to use the gateway, and what servers they can connect to.
I had a situation were we needed to grant business Partners access to one of our servers bu I didn't want them to be able to access any other network resources.
So I created a new user and put him in his own group. I also clicked the "Logon to" button and gave him access to the targer server: TARGET
Then I granted that group access to TARGET with RDRAP.
I also added the user into the "Administrators" group on the TARGET machine.
But...
Something didn't work...
I could connect using RDP in the office with that username to the TARGET machine but not through the RD gateway. I kept getting logon error messages and asked to re enter the password.
After much headscratching it was found that it was the "Logon to" setting that was causing the problem.
RD Gateway will not work with a user with "Logon to" set. You can either delete the setting OR add in the client machine name.. yes.. really... the name of the PC you wil be running the Remote Desktop Client from!It sounds crazy, but it definitely works, so hopefully you don't have to go throught the same hoops I did to work it out.
